Thea van Schalkwyk feels privileged to have gained 30+ years of experience in art project management and curatorship, consolidation of art collections, art export, valuations of artworks and artisanal items in collections and deceased estates, and as artist, educator, author and self-publisher.
Geography fascinated Thea van Schalkwyk from an early age. It started with paging through National Geographic magazines her grandfather subscribed to – to read and learn more about nature and cultures. This was nurtured further by travels and road trips with her parents and brothers. No wonder that surprisingly geography was actually the subject at school she enjoyed the most.
If she reflects on her career and reviews her business’s services and products, she views her activities and outputs more as geo creative than purely that of an art specialist as she became known. Intuitively and perhaps subconsciously, geography as her predominant interest – both the physical and human strands – transpires almost spontaneously in her art-centred business, services, programmes and products.
